Professor Rex Nettleford is gone but his "light" will live on.
The Caribbean lost one of its most revered cultural figures last night, as Professor Rex Nettleford, Vice-Chancellor Emeritus of The University of the West Indies died, only hours before he would have celebrated his 77th birthday. He passed away at George Washington Hospital in Washington, DC, one week after suffering a heart attack. The entire UWI family is deeply saddened at the news of Nettleford's death.

The University of the West Indies, Open Campus (Cayman) will host two outstanding students in the UWI STAT programme, Kamal Wood (Cave Hill) and Prunell Mungroo (St. Augustine). Kamal is a Rhodes Scholar and Prunella a CARICOM Youth Ambassador and both boast considerable experience in the field of youth advocacy. The students will be visiting the Cayman Islands from February 2-6, 2010.
